What is the best pc friendly video format with high quality?

i have loads of music video which are currently in AVHD format but i have just found out that AVHD puts great burden on your windows cpu and graphics card and i do not want this (http://www.winxdvd.com/resource/play-avchd-on-pc.htm) is h264 mp4 the best one to not do this to your pc and still maintain the high quality? thank you
