Can I work in the NICU being an RN?

Is it humanly possible to be in an RN program and work full time?

  • I have just been accepted into an RN program earlier this week. My concern is this: THough I have nobody to support myself, I still have to support myself while I'm in the program. I don't have a spouse or a family member that will support me while in the RN program. I will make this work come hell or high water. But is it humanly possible to work full time while being in the RN program and not have your grades suffer because of it? If it's possible, any advice from one's experience would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

If you are one of the few people who can live a normal life on about 4 hours sleep then it is possible. If you need as much sleep as most people then you probably cannot do this.

I worked more than full time while in a PhD program, and I don't think I'd try to work full-time while studying to be an RN. Is there any chance you could support yourself partly with loans so that you'd have more time to study?
