How can I get into Yale?
-
My older brother and sister both go to Yale, and they love it. I've wanted to go there for a long time, but have never really considered what I have to do to get in. Im in 8th grade right now and will be starting my freshman year in august. I plan on being on the volleyball team and the soccer team. My grades are ok right now, ( A's and B's) but I plan on stepping it up a lot in high school. Does any body have any tips? Does any body know like the average GPA/SAT scores of students accepted to Yale? What kind of grades/extra curricular do I have to have? Is their anything else I can do to make myself more appealing to Yale such as community service/student council? Any advice is help full, Thanks so much!

Answer:
It sounds like you are on the right track, since you are already asking excellent questions and thinking about your future! Schools like Yale like students who are involved in the things they are really passionate about! Join extra curricular activities that you enjoy and can get really involved in--maybe something that you can work your way up into a leadership position. Things like student council, national honors society, and student government are always a good idea if things like that interest you! Community service is AN EXCELLENT IDEA, especially if you get creative with the kinds of things you volunteer for. Another good way to prepare yourself would be to prepare for those standardized tests that (unfortunately) play a big role in your admission to any school. Being involved in sports is a good thing as well. The important thing is to only take on the things that you really enjoy, because otherwise you will do too much and not perform your best. This is the website for prospective students at Yale: http://www.yale.edu/gateways/prosp_students.html And you can get a lot of answers there! It would also be a good idea to meet with your academic/careers counselor when you get in high school and see if he/she has any advice for you, and talking to your siblings couldn't hurt either!!

just get great grades (always study hard) for a scholarship and yes, extracurricular activities are good for that and get a job (if it works with your schedule) and save up some money (Yale is expensive). Always work hard! Best Wishes! I am personally hoping to get to The University Of London (an amazing university) and I am doing all I recommended to you.

You have to have a perfect GPA, perfect SAT and ACT score. I know someone who got into Yale. He is a Presidential Scholar, got a 2400 on his SAT, a perfect score on his ACT, is literally a genius, and has a perfect GPA. Try hard and you might be able to get into Yale.
