  • Answer:

First let's get you prepared to ace the interview and get a firm offer. Below are applicants who shared the Applebee's interview experience plus interview questions who are from various locations which should give you an edge. Then I provided you with comments from employees at Applebee's would shared the pros and cons of the job as waiter. Good Luck! Server at Applebee's- Posted Feb 27, 2012 -Received and Accepted Offer Interviewed Jan in Hayden, ID (took a day) I met one on one with the employee manager for the Applebee's located in Moscow, ID. I got the interview with no previous restaurant service but had a connection through an employee. I applied for a server position and was told that with no experience I would be better as I hostess. I respectfully declined and insisted I would be more suited to a server position. After taking a series of predictable tests I was told I could be a server because I tested perfectly for the position. Interview Questions How would you handle a difficult customer?. What makes you feel you are a good fit for a server position? Negotiation Details Yes. I was told I could have a hostess position but I insisted, professionally, that I was more suited for a server position. After a perfect test score I was offered the position due to my insistence. Server at Applebee's- Posted Feb 21, 2012-Received and Accepted Offer Interviewed Mar 2011 in Parsippany, NJ (took 2 days) Interview was very informal; asked very basic questions such as previous restaurant experience. It felt much more like a casual conversation. Following interview, I was given a short test that asked basic situational questions. Interview Questions Have you worked in a restaurant before? Do you feel comfortable working in a fast paced environment? Everyone makes mistakes, tell me about a mistake you made and what you learned from it.? Negotiation Details no negotiations, server wage is 2.13/hr + tips. Server at Applebee's- Posted Feb 16, 2012 -Received and Accepted Offer Interviewed Feb 2012 (took 1 week) We were asked to demonstrate how we would sell a certain menu item, what we would do if a guest complained?, why we wanted to work at Applebee's?... They want someone upbeat and outgoing. Interview Questions How would you sell this margarita to a table? "What are your strengths and weaknesses? What percent of people do you think tip? Why did you consider applebees for employment? What is the funniest thing that has happend to you? How do you work with people you dislike? Employees Server (Comments) Pros Great bribes for selling- Free food and apple rewards for contests. Great ppl to work with. Cons Exhausting and nothing to do with the serving..They really ask you to push a lot and (for the location I am at) for not really worth it and your job will depend on it. You start with a drink prop to push their featured alcoholic drink. Is their a child? Gotta find out their name and put it on a sticker for them. Then you have to push upsells. Then maybe I have to push Make-a-Wish (great org but some ppl get angry at you for asking). Then I need to push a survey that doesn't really give the guest anything except a chance to win-not helping guests do it Applebee's...... I have to try to get them to not only do a survey but to leave a WOW comment. And if you don't do all of this especially the surveys you don't have a job eventually. Ugh. On another note, a lot of microwaving and when guests are unhappy about their food. Not so great for the servers Pros If you get hired in a busy area, the monetary compensation from tips is AMAZING Many managers structure work schedules so everybody has a few profitable shifts and a few unprofitable shifts... In other words, I worked Friday night, (very profitable) but had Saturday off, meanwhile I also had to work Tuesday night (how often do you go out on a Tuesday?) Cons Your pay will get zeroed out thanks to government taxes... you make money based on tips The kitchen staff is... well, you'll find that out soon enough. It's a bunch of people who are surrounded by sweltering hot ovens and tables have a knack of always ordering meals with exceedingly different prep times, and since all meals must be delivered at the same time, these guys/gals are stressed out is what I am trying to say... and yes, a stressed out kitchen staff will always take it out on the servers. Pros quick cash- get cash every night made great friends
