What is it like being a midwife?

Overdue and no midwife what now?

  • I am over due since 5/3/12, but I have no midwife so I don't know what to do. Basically what happened was I was suppose to be induced, but they canceled the appointment because someone went into labor. So I called the next day and so on trying to get an appointment, but like always they have nothing open. The only days my midwife is at the clinic is Thursdays and Fridays, but when I asked to talk to her the first couple of times the woman hung up on me and then the last time she actually got my midwife to come to the phone, but she sent it to the answering machine. So right now I'm trying not to but I can't help but FREAK OUT! At the moment I don't know what to do... I tried the walking (Universal, 5 mile walks, stores), sex (things start up, but stop), spicy foods (heart burn), labor exercise (things start, but stop.), etc. Honestly I think the problem goes back on my midwife because she had stopped labor twice and since then I haven't dilated in fact my cervix closed and resealed. My baby has been sitting very low (very painful), but like I said my cervix is sealed. Any ways if you have any ideas that you have done yourself that is safe please tell me. I'm worried about her having problems also with me, before baby I was 120 and now I'm 170. HELP!!!!

  • Answer:

SO there's only 1 midwife in the entire practice that can see you? No Dr.? No other midwife? You still have another 6/7 days before it becomes detrimental that delivery HAS to happen - I would call and ask to speak to someone other than "your" midwife - seriously someone else has to be there other than her the rest of the week The hospital where you're delivering at should have copies of your medical file, you can try and call the OB on-call and ask them to review it and get their opinion.

Make sure you file a complaint about the midwife. I'm pretty sure this would be considered medical abandonment and she can get in some serious trouble for it. Shouldn't you have had another appointment by now? You're supposed to see your doc/midwife weekly in the last month of your pregnancy.

your baby will come when its good and ready to come, no need to panic. just relax and let it happen in its own time. your body knows what to do.
