How to write display driver?

Display driver causing my computer to crash when playing Portal 2?

• I have been trying to play Portal 2, which i downloaded from Steam, on my PC laptop. I can open the game and get to the main menu. From there I make my way to the chamber editor (perpetual testing initiative) and I can open that. I can get as far as getting into the actual editor and creating a chamber with minor jumps in sound occasionally. The problem comes when I try to actually play the chamber I created. It builds the chamber (very slowly) and then begins to load the map. It seems to be able to load the map, but the second it puts me in the game, the screen goes black and I hear the sound of the portal gun opening cut off and repeating. The sound just keeps repeating and glitching, and the screen is black. I have to use ctrl alt delete to open task manager and close the game. When I open task manager though, at the bottom of the screen near the task bar, a message pops up saying something about the display driver having crashed but it recovered. Unfortunately I didn't write down the message before it went away and don't know exactly what it said. So finally, my actual question: What is causing this crash and how can I fix it? Is it the display driver that's causing the crash? And if so, how can I fix this?

  You might need to update the display driver. Go out to the manufacturers support website and get the latest update. Another problem is the hardware might be getting flakey. I had issues with my Nvidia 8800 GTX, but the craziest fix works on it. You can actually BAKE a graphics card in your oven and it melts microfissures in your solder joints that cause your card to screw up. You can look it up, but try the drivers first.
