If you take a highschool level math class in eight grade, will u have to take math junior year?
-
I hate math. It is my weakest subject. I am 13 and in sixth grade. In sixth grade math, you review everything from first grade math all the way to 5th and take some if it a step farther because in 7th, the math is drastically different because you are getting into algebra, a bit of calculus, and 3D geometry. I have gotten straight A's in math all year because I am in a basic skills class due to a low standardized test score and since all sixth grade is is review. So I have taken a look at some algebra, calculus and 3D geometry and it looks hard, but since i am only going to be in seventh grade, I am ot stressing about it because we will be taking baby steps because we have never learned any of it before. Now in eighth, you can take a high school level math such as algebra 1 or geometry. In my town, you are only required 3 credits (3 years) of math, so I am planning on taking algebra 1, geometry, and either trig or algebra 2, not sure yet. But I would like to take my first year of high school math in the comfortable middle school environment so I will understand it better because of the smaller environment and to get it overr with if it will count as a first credit forhigh schooll. So if I take ahigh schooll math in eight grade, will it count as a first credit for highschool so I will only have to take math for only my freshman and sophmore year of highschool and then i am finished?

Answer:
If your high school accepts the Algebra I credit while your in eighth grade. You don't have to take one your junior or senior year (some schools do, some don't). Although it is HIGHLY recommended that you do if you want to get into a good college. Algebra II will not be good enough for any college classes. You'd have to take remedial classes in order to catch up and be able to do that. But you have six more years of school. And the school may change its standards during those years.

1. 7th grade math does not involve "a bit of calculus" more like addition and subtraction (pre algebra) 2. You have to take Algebra I before Geometry 3. I took algebra I in 8th grade and it counts as one of my maths. All good US schools (colleges) require a math above algebra 2. So If you took Algebra 2 sophomore year, you would still need another math. This means either doubling up sophomore year or taking pre calculs/ AP stats/ discrete in junior year. If you are planning into getting into a good college. College's want to see you take a Math every year so they know you aren't a slacker. Technically you could be finished by sophomore year, but I do not recommend it. I would keep going with your mathematics studies, I hate math too by the way.
