How do you cancel mobile phone contract, i think ive been scammed by friend?
-
My friend used me to buy mobile phone contract, we bought 2 phones from different shops using my details and bank details. He said he will sell the phone abroad, cancel direct debit and pay me money. Now im home and did some research and have realized that i have put myself into trouble. I didnt know you could only cancel contract after you have paid all the monthly payments. I thought they just block the phone and cancel the contract. Please help, i dont know what to do.

Answer:
Well the way I read your question you knew what the plan was so are as guilty as your friend. You say he planned on selling the phone which you must have known was not the right to do. Your friend is not much of a friend if he has left you carrying the debt but what did you think would happen. Did you honestly think the phone company would just say okay then that's alright we'll take the loss? You and your friend were trying to pull a fast one and have got caught out. Your friend is laughing and you are going to be left with the debt.

You've known the plan from the outset, so you need to fix it! Get the mobile phones back from your friend, go back to the shop and under the cooling off period get return them the phones and get the contracts cancelled. If the phones have already been sold, its only a problem if you stop paying your contract, so continue paying the contract and learn from your mistakes. If you don't pay it will become civil debt which will be sold onto an agency that will pursue the debt, so its better to either pay or return the phones..
You got what you deserved!
Call the mobile carrier immediately and tell them that you are the victim of a crime and need to cancel the contracts. Call your bank and tell them that you have been the victim of identity theft and they need to cancel the automatic payments. issue a new card if necessary. Call the police and tell them what happened. Make sure you get some paperwork on the matter. Depending on what country you are in, there is probably a telecommunication ombudsman that you can go to for a complaint if the telco fails to refund your money.
You have a 14 day cooling off period which a lot of companies neglect to tell you.
Ask you 'friend' for the handsets back.
