What to do about cracked toenail?

A quarter of my big toenail's cracked and hanging off?

• So, we played lacrosse in gym a few weeks ago and since I was one of three people who scored a ton, girls were going aggro on me and so I think they hit my toenail which weakened it. Then, like two or three weeks ago, me and some other guys on the school soccer team were playing some 7v7 soccer in gym and I was in goal. I went to slide tackle the ball out of their striker's possession and he meant to do almost the same, but his tackle landed on my toe and cracked it. So now it's cracked and it's only connected to the nail part near the right side of my toe. I've had it bandaged and I've applied alcohol to it daily, but I don't know what to do. Do I let it grow out, remove it myself (how much will this hurt and how long will it be until I'm able to run again?) or have it removed by a doctor (I don't think this is necessary)? Thanks!

  It will just naturally fall off. Using a nail cutter, cut it slowly. Bit by bit. I'd suggest not to put bandage on it when you are at home so as to give it some air. In going to school have it bandaged for protection but make sure that too not too tight. I'd suggest that you put betadine on the wound too for faster healing.
