What is the best life insurance to get BEFORE melanoma diagnosis?

  • I am 99% sure I have melanoma on my leg. Have apt soon to get this confirmed and staged and start the process. I am a nurse, I know the process, and know the outcome can be one of many. I do not currently have any life insurance, never have. I have 2 small children and it is JUST me and then, no close friends, no family. Worst case scenario, if I only have a short time to live, what would be the best LIFE insurance I can get before getting this diagnosis? I would need something in which they could not cancel me if I am diagnosed with cancer within days of purchasing a premium. Today is May 11th, I should have my diagnosis by May 29th. I would like the biggest policy at the most affordable rate (I don't make as much money as you would think), but its also important that I get the fewest stipulations. By the way, I hate to admit it, but I am a smoker. I quit from 2009 to late 2010, but then started up again when I started RN school (am an LPN now, graduate from RN school in 3 weeks). Any solid advice would be appreciated. In laymens terms please.

It doesn't matter about the DIAGNOSIS. What matters, is that it's PREEXISTING. Not disclosing this preexisting condition on your application, is fraud, and voids your coverage. Disclosing it, is going to be an automatic decline. Sadly, you've been trying to play the insurance game - going without insurance, and now hoping to pass a condition off to the insurance company as brand new. This is also called Fraud. And, sadly, there are lots of OTHER dishonest people out there as well, and the insurance companies are quite good at discovering lies of ommission, and they will deny your claim. Any of the "no medical coverage" policies have very limited benefits, plus you have to wait at least two years to die, before they'll pay out - IF you didn't commit fraud. In layman's terms: It's too late. You have to buy your lottery ticket BEFORE you think your number comes up.

If you haven't had an official diagnosis yet, than you should be ok in buying. They ask if you've been diagnosed, not if you think you have something. Make sure to answer health questions honestly BUT only answer what they ask. So when they say have you been diagnosed with or treated for cancer you can say no. It is not lying or fraud since you haven't been diagnosed or treated at this time. If you die during the first two years they can contest the policy but as long as you didn't lie on your app (admit that you smoke for example) then there's not much they can do about it. Also, I know you said you don't have any close friends or family but you need to start thinking of who would take care of your kids if something does happen to you. Do either of them have close friends whose parents you like and think are doing a good job raising their own kids? You could talk to them about being guardians and if they agree and you trust them you can name them as beneficiary on your policy. If you name the kids themselves they can't get the money until they're 18 which would make the person(s) raising them pay everything out of their own pocket. I really, really hope your diagnosis is wrong, but you should definitely look into coverage either way.

By the time you get your diagnosis the information will be in the MIB computer. Instead of paying for life insurance you should prepay on some funeral expenses. You may not have any close friends or relatives but this may be the time to mend some fences and start a relationship with them. I know that is not easy but it can do done. If not find friends that your kids may be close too. Get more involved in the kids school, put in some volunteer time, ect. Hope your wrong about your diagnosis. Good Luck. Look at putting a trust in place. See an attorney.

It don't matter but it is very important to get before youre diagnosed. Very hard to buy any afterwards. Mutual of Oaha is good. Go thru independant agent that represents several firms. He will work for you and won't be loyal to any company. In addition if one company turns you down he will have others. Don't go online and turn in a bunch of application. Every inquiry lowers your rating. They use a MIB database and like a credit rating you look bad if you ask a bunch of places.

http://www.lifeinsurancehub.net/lifeinsurancepolicy.html The incontestable period and contestable period. Let us assume you applied for a life insurance policy and lied on the application that you never had cancer. However, through a report from the Medical Information Bureau the insurance company discovers that you were diagnosed with melanoma 2 months ago, they can withdraw the policy, and refund your money. If, however, they discovered this after the contestable period had expired, they could not take the policy away from you. Contestable period is usually 1 year. ABOVE IS COPIED FROM THE 1ST SITE LISTED REGARDING CONTESTABLE PERIOD. http://www.insureme.com/life-insurance/can-my-life-insurance-company-deny-claim-after-i-die This site list all the reasons that the insurance company can void or contest any application during the 1st 2 years. 1st off, must inform you that my knowledge of life insurance is "very limited", so only linking sites for your information. As a smoker, you MUST list on any application and they will charge you more as a smoker. As the other poster stated, do not apply to several companies, since if you get denied, then would be almost impossible to find any insurance, once denied by one. You would need to get on a telephone with a insurance broker to ask what your options are,,,,,,,,period. But,,,,,,here is the problem. Say for instance the worst has happened and your melanoma is confirmed after you take out the insurance. And God forbid, you are not around 2 years from now, then even if they were to pay out death benefits to provide for your children, they might only pay out YOUR premiums for 2 years, not the death benefit, due to the contestability provision. You are most likely between a rock and hard place and need the advice of a insurance professional, to see if you have any options or not. good luck
