How to ask for a job application?

• I am sixteen years old and would really like a summer job. Do I simply walk into the place I'd like to apply and ask for an application? Any tips on etiquette?

• Answer:

  If it's a food job, don't go in during meal rushes. I've worked restaurants where they would put people on the bottom of the stack for bothering us about an application when there's a line out the door. Dress casual nice, something you might wear normally but prepared to talk to a manager if they're in a hiring mood. Other than that, just go in mid to late afternoon or slow time, and anybody at the counter just ask for an application, please. You could also ask them if they know if they're hiring or not, that's acceptable. But I cannot stress enough that going into a restaurant in the middle of lunch or dinner is a serious no-no.
