I plan on driving from DC to NYC but want to take a train into the city, where's the best place to park?
-
This next week I'm driving from Washington DC to NYC but I really don't want to drive in the city itself. Is there a train station maybe an hour or so outside the city that I can park my car at all day and then take the train into the city?

Answer:
Have you tried riding MegaBus or Bolt Bus from Union Station in DC to New York City? We did and were surprised at how many young professionals who ride these highway buses that even offer broad band WiFi. I would recommend you consider such alternative rather than driving unless (i) you are making other stops along the way or (ii) taking a full car load of passengers because you would be saving a lot headache and worry. FYI when we visit NYC for a few days we normally book a hotel that has shuttle service to NJ Transit Stations just outside of the Big Apple that have all day parking and then can hop on NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line into New York Penn Station. Hope the Above Info Helps and Enjoy Your Trip! ,

Of course there is my friend. You can park in Hamilton, NJ, which is near the state capital, for $6 a day, or you can park in Iselin for $10. From either station, you can hop on NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line to New York Penn Station, which is located in the heart of Midtown, Manhattan. The one way fare on the NEC Line will cost you between $8 to $12 one way ($16 to $24 round trip). The blog post at the link below has all the information you need to know about parking at the aforementioned stations. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck Native New Yorker

Newark near Penn Station. But I would suggest a better idea is to drive into Staten Island, Find some free place to park on the street and take a bus to the ferry. You get the bonus of a nice view of the harbor in a relaxed atmosphere

take the metro to the red line and get off at union station. Take the train to penn station in NYC.
