Are Community College General Ed. Requirements separate from CSU General Ed. Requirements?
-
Alright so I'm a freshman at a community college and I am still a little confused on how exactly the system works as for as the credits. As of right now I do not know what I want to do I am just working on my general education requirements at a community college. But I have some papers that show what the general ed. requirements are for community college and then there is another one for a csu. It says on the CSU paper that I need to complete 60 transferable semester units to transfer to a csu as a junior. But neither the general ed requirements on the CSU paper or the Community College paper show 60 need units, however I did the math and when add both of them together is comes to exactly 60 units....the question however is does that mean a class I use to complete a course for a CSU general ed. requirement can not also be used for the Community College general ed. requirements?

Answer:
So long as the community college general education class is equivalent to the CSU class, it will satisfy the CSU requirement. Some CSUs require some general ed classes that are not required for the community college program. Discuss this matter with the transfer counselor at your community college and look at the websites of the CSUs that interest you to find out what their general ed requirements are.

no, they're the same community colleges and universities in the same state are regulated by the state board of education, and require all to offer the same general education requirement courses so as to ease transferring from a community college to a university. ignore the next guy, they have obviously never gone to college anywhere.

They're likely going to be the same. Talk to an advisor.
