How to wash a graduation gown?

Is it normal too wear your cap and gown in your picture for graduation announcements?

• With graduation coming up, I'm going to be sending out my graduation pictures soon. I did not get "senior pictures" taken at all, so I had planned to simply have a picture taken of me wearing a button up in a park or something. However, my father and sister insist that I should wear my cap and gown, along with my sash, cords, and medal in my announcements. My father's argument is that if I wear my cap and gown, it'll grab more attention than if my picture just looks like everyone else's. I'm fine for expressing individuality and everything, but would wearing my cap and gown be considered inappropriate or flashy? If so, what should I wear instead?
