Is ST_GeomFromText better than providing direct geometry?

How relevant is complex mathematics in architecture?

  • I am currently in 6th form college, and am making the decision of what subject to take at university. My current subjects at the moment are: Chemistry, Art, English literature and Medieval history, and am predicted high As and A*, I am looking at studying architecture at either Cambridge university or UCL, neither of these courses have maths as a requirement, however cambridge recommends it at 'as' level. I achieved an A* in maths at GCSE, however i did not peruse into college as i simply did not enjoy certain aspects of the course on offer; i am competent at maths and tend to pick up things pretty quickly. However my concern is that the maths in the course will be that of an a-level student. I know some a level maths, mainly geometry, which i have used for my art and some basic mechanics. All professional architects that i have done work with have said that providing i 'can work a calculator' i'll be okay. Just looking for some peace of mind, thanks. Please share any of your own experiences in the field.

  • Answer:

the math in architecture is pretty easy as mainly it is just drawing but even if you get A or A*, there will be millions that have the same result or better as yours.
