    1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake I was 1 mile from the epicenter They also call it the San Francisco Quake but it really originated in Santa Cruz county I thought a semi truck hit our building 7.2 16 seconds many dead when the bay bridge and embarcadero highway collapsed http://pubs.usgs.gov/dds/dds-29/

Oh yea, I live in California, the the SFBay area. We get quakes - the 1989 was big.

I lived in SoCal for a few years as a lad, but don't remember any earthquakes. The first one I do recall was when I was in Alaska in the early '80s.
