Can you buy online PC games then transfer them to another PC?

I'd like to buy Valve's Portal 2 while it's on a limited time offer. But my Mac can't handle the game. Once I buy a new Mac, it can handle the game. Can I buy the game on this Mac today then somehow transfer it to another Mac when I buy it?

If you are downloading it to steam all you have to do when you have a new computer is download steam sign into your steam account then re-download the game because the game is on your account.
