What is a receptionist's job in a doctor's office?

Can a doctors office tell a employer what job a injured worker has to do?

  • I thought as long as the medical restriction was met (no use of the right arm) the doctor could'nt say what type of job that person does. If this is true please provide ORC code or ohio bwc code to confirm.

  • Answer:

A Dr gives advice no one including you are required under any law to follow his advice

The doctor can only describe restrictions, such as you mention, but nothing more. The doctor has no authority to tell an employer that they must let the person do X job. The employer can attempt to accomodate the worker, if possible, but that doesn't mean they have to bend over backwards to find them something that fits in the restrictions.

And just how will a doctor know what job duties your employer has available? If the doctor says you are to do phone duty, and your employer has no work in that area, they don't have to lay off another person that is doing phone duty so you can.

No a doctor can make a recommendation and the company can follow it or not. If the company cannot provide for the restriction then the worker does not work. He will get workman;s comp.
