Why do cons talk about how great the poor have it one minute, and the next how poverty is worse now?
-
one minute they are citing Cato talking about how the poor have cable tv and more living space and air conditioning and cars... and how they have it great... the next minute they are talking about how the war on poverty didn't work and it's a massive failure? so, they aren't poor anymore but they are worse off?

Answer:
Because many of them are only interested in opposing whatever liberals say or do. Killing Osama bin Laden? Doesn't count because Obama bragged Helping the Poor? The poor have it easier than the middle class. The economy is getting better? Poverty is worse than ever. Scientific evidence shows global warming trend? Global warming doesn't exist because it's snowing somewhere. Scientific evidence shows global warming trend? Global warming exists but is part of a natural cycle. Obama single-handedly saved your grandmother from a burning house? He did it to get votes. See how that works?

There are more supposedly poor people than ever in the US, yet they have cable TV, cell phones, and they are fat. Figure it out.

It's OK, you're a liberal.. nobody expects you to be intelligent enough to grasp this on your own. The poor are better off.. but there are a lot more of them.
How Would I Know
The answer is simple: Liberals complain about how "unfair" it is that the 1% are living large but we have so many "poor" people. What they fail to mention is that the "poor" people in this country live like royalty as compared to poor people in other countries. Liberals also claim to be the "compassionate" people that care about the poor, yet they have done nothing to improve their condition. The liberals have structured a welfare system that keeps people dependent upon the government and punishes those who try to make a living for themselves. And when the Republicans talk about welfare reform, they run screaming to their impoverished constituents and say "The evil Republicans want to take away your welfare! They want you and your families out on the street and starving!" So to answer your question: Conservatives talk about how great the poor in this country have it one minute and how poverty is getting worse in this country the next minute to illustrate the FACT that liberals have exploited the poor for decades for no other reason than their own selfish ambitions to stay in elected office and tell others what to do while lining their greedy pockets with taxpayer money and "donations" from PACs and special interest groups. The sad part is the impoverished are too brainwashed and blind to see that the truly evil people who are "keeping them down" are not the rich, but the people who claim to care about them.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the poor have it "great". Compared to the poor of the rest of the world the U.S. poor do. Studies show the poor do have cable tv, air conditioning cars etc. Ours may be the only country in which we have an obesity epidemic among the poor. The war on poverty doesn't work. No one moves out of poverty based on government handouts at best it subsists them at their current level.

You have confused yourself to the max. No one ever said being poor is great. That is a ridiculous notion. The so called poor in the US are better off than most of the rest of the people on Earth. Did you know that, if you have any money at all, you are already richer than 94% of the people on earth?

Both are correct. There is no conflict whatsoever. OUR poor live better than all but the richest 20% of WESTERN Europeans. That doesn't make it GOOD to make people POORER as Democrat policy is long-proved to do, nor to LOCK people OUT of upward mobility as Democrats proudly declare their polices are intended to do. Poverty was falling fast BEFORE Democrats made it a Federal issue. It STOPPED falling then as Democrats SAID was their plan. Why are you glad of that? Poverty was TRANSIENT before Democrats made it a Federal issue. It became an inter-generational lifestyle then as Democrats SAID was their plan. Why are you glad of that? Glossary for the functionally illiterate: Transient means something temporary, that passes by etc. In this case it means someone in poverty "now" would NOT BE later-on.
