What is the best way to attain a career in business ethnography?

  If your business management degree is a bachelors, you will most likely find a job as an analyst looking at data that has already been captured. In the case of qualitative data, you would code each response in order to present neat data sets to those who are actually constructing the marketing tactics, and in the case of quantitative data would manipulate it so that it is more easily understood. In order to actually attain a career as an ethnographer and actually design/carry out the studies, you would need to either work your way up or, ideally, obtain a Ph.D in Anthropology, doing your dissertation on something related to the Anthropology of Consumerism. The marketing department in any large company (i.e. Fortune 500) would be an ideal place for you, since for the most part they have a specific demographic in mind and need to conduct ethnographic studies on how consumers interact with their products.
