Traveling to Europe Tips?

Tips for traveling in Europe?

  • I am almost 16 and will be traveling to Europe this August with my mom and twin sister. it's my first time going overseas, so I'm excited but also nervous about the flight, drinking the water (???) , time differences, and eating ( I'm a vegetarian). We will be mainly going to London and Rome, but traveling between them, and possibly going to Paris. if you have any tips on the best places to go, eat, stay ( on a reasonable budget), and how to avoid setbacks, please let me know! thank you!

  • Answer:

There is no problem drinking tap water in London, Paris or Rome. And if you don't like tap water, then you can buy bottled water anywhere. Get a guide book to find hotels - there are hundreds if not thousands of hotels in each city and because you are going in August it's a good idea to book in advance as many places will already be full. Look at maps to decide which sites you want to see most, then look for hotels in that area. Guides like Frommers, Rough Guides or Lonely Planet have a lot of budget accommodations listed. If you don't want to buy them, check them out from your local library You won't have a problem with vegetarian food in London or Rome as long as you aren't vegan. Just think of Italian food - pizza, pasta, risotto, etc. These all have many vegetarian options. In Rome you have to try the Cacio e Pepe pasta -- it's a very simple dish of pasta with pecorino romano cheese and black pepper but is absolutely delicious. In London you can find Thai, Indian, Italian, etc that have vegetarian options. Paris is tougher to find good veggie options but there are always salads and if you eat eggs, the omelets are better than any omelet you've ever eaten. And if you like cheese, then the cheeses are great in France EDIT - not sure why people gave Robert43 thumbs down as he gives good advice

Take your own washcloths. European hotels will not supply these. Gets the cheap ones and take those. The tap water is fine. Read Rick Steves' travel web site for lots of information. He also has books for sale in your area at bookstores.

I think you have books in America, and you might even have libraries, so go to one and borrow the other about the places you will be visiting. water is safe. Veggie food is usually available, but don't be a pain with your fussy eating. not London during the Olympics, I hope.

You must go to Firenze and Venice too. Capri it is a very nice island at 2 hours from Rome. In París take all day tour to L'oira Valley, there are amazing castles and wine yars. Visit Vesailles Palace too. Don't go to Disney París, is boring.

Check hostelworld.com also you might want to check Eurailpass for deal on trains (you purchase before you go). For flights: expedia.com or cheapflights.com. As for good deals: Romapass (you purchase from newspaper vendor or similar, especially at station Termini: it costs 24 euros and gives you 3 days FREE public transport and free access to museums: and the coliseum is a museum. Same sort of deal available in Paris. Possibly in London as well: check with the tourist desk when you land. Don't forget to purchase flight cancellation insurance (in case you can't go because of very serious reason) and also purchase travel-health insurance. Enjoy. (PS: for future reference, you might want to check couchsurfing.com and housesitting.com....)
