When you sign off the dole, do you get a P45?

ID asked for foreigners when they sign on the dole?

  • Hi, I am a foreing woman living in Cheshire. I lost my job and I'm now on benefits. For 6 months I've been signing on my local job center, and every time I get asked for my passport, even though the person who does my claim is always the same. I've noticed that no one else gets asked for an ID. When I asked him why I have to present my ID every time he said that they have to make sure I am myself the one signing, and that every one is expected to show proof of identification. When I told him that for 6 months I haven't seen any of the advisor asking english people for the identification, he shrug his shoulders and changed the subject. Is this a new form of discrimination? to the ones that are going to reply something rude like 'foreigns come here to get the dole. Get a job, or things like that... really, don't bother please

I tend to agree with Hagi. I view it as perfectly reasonable that you are asked for ID.English people might not always get asked for the ID that is supposed to be required but that says more about the agents working for the benefits office than it does anything else. Some of them are not doing their jobs properly if they are not asking them for ID each time. To me it is not discrimination at all.I find it a little ludicrous that you seem to think it might be.When living in a foreign country you are bound to live by the laws and regulations of that country. When in Rome. I tend to disagree with Boney. The main reason for this disagreement is because i can read and there is one very important statement that you make."I lost my job".This to me means at some point you have paid in to the system.None of us know for how long but not knowing that does not give us the right to be so judgemental. If the asker has paid in to the system for a number of years then surely that person is just as entitled as a 22 year old English person that has done some work. After all a 22 year old can't have paid much in to the system and benefits are not based on race You can't have one rule for one section of society and another rule for another section. I truly find it staggering that people can insult each other purely on the basis of a question.I find it even more staggering that people don't seem to read the question properly before giving a rely.To me the statement "I lost my job" means this person has worked in this country and has therefore paid national insurance and income tax. I understand that a lot of people feel passionate about things like this at times but there is no need for insults. It seems to me that some people need to grow up and learn to put their point of view across in a constructive polite manner! EDIT: @Boney If you view that foreigners have ruined this country and that they should or should not be entitled to any benefits in this country fine, but it is not what was asked and is a matter that should be reserved for the correct question. If you don't feel that you can reply on topic then just what was the point in leaving a reply.Especially one that was so judgemental. Edit: to reply to your response. The points i made regarding discrimination i still agree with. There have been all sorts of reforms of the welfare system recently and i think asking for ID each time is an attempt to try and cut down on benefit fraud which is part of those reforms. The fact that some people are not asked for ID just tells me that some people that work for the job centre are not doing their jobs correctly. It does not say to me it is discrimination. The fact that the adviser that you see does ask just says to me that he or she is doing their job correctly, and the others that you see that are not asked for ID, the advisers that see them are not doing their job correctly. Of course your perception may be different to mine and i can't have the same perception as yourself as im a white English male.Having said that i personally don't think this is discrimination. The world we live in today is far too politically correct. It is so far that way these days that freedom of speech is affected. We need to try and find a balance.I don't think it does that balance any good to go looking for any example of discrimination when that might not be the case. I totally agree with you about comments like Boney's.Hence my reply to it.

Sorry to say, but Boney is right.

You freely admit to being a guest in the UK and making full use of the generous benefits system. It is perfect reasonable that your passport is checked each and every time to evidence that you are who you say you are, your here legally and you have recourse to public funds. UK claimants will have had to prove who they are etc and may be required to update that proof at any time.

I'm English and I have never had to do that.

How dare you even think about complaining. You are in a foreign country, claiming money from the taxpayers, you should be eternally grateful you haven't been sent packing. People like you are disgusting; you go to other countries, drain their economies, and then whine about it not being perfectly sculpted around your needs. EDIT: I hope you never have/had children, because no doubt they will become leeching scum like yourself. You are truly worthy of nothing more than a shotgun to the back of the head. People like you have destroyed England, and are cheeky enough to whine about yourself.

Go home then!

Again you are still on about the rules,I don't think that they single you out just because you are foreign ,You all are to ready to jump upon the wagon of this discrimination crap It-is waring very thin ,any time something is wrong, If you are not happy you will be treated better in your own country .so you no what you can do.

you go to the job centre and "sign on" So how long does that take, - say 15 minutes So you see whats happening in the job centre for 15 minutes every 2 weeks out of those people you see in the job centre in those 15 minutes Do you know how many are english? Do you know what proportion out of all the people seen during that 2 weeks are english Do you know what proportion are asked for ID and how many of those are english/not english? Its possible it was discrimination, but you have very little actual evidence that it was. (you say you always see the same person - maybe the person you see just dont like YOU)
