Have you ever moved to another country?

If you moved to another country, would you still want to be "you"?

  • say you moved to live in another country, would you still want to live the way you do now if it meant not affecting anybody else around you in a bad way? talking your own language, dressing how you want to dress, eating foods youre used to etc literally living how you do now but just in a sunnier country for instance. Or would you adapt and live like the "natives"?

  • Answer:

I would be me. I'd make friends and try out customs but I'd still celebrate national holidays like ANZAC Day and wear my little Aussie flag on Australia Day. I'd still have BBQs (inviting friends and incorporating some things of that country), have pavlova, ANZAC biscuits, make lamingtons, Sunday roast etc, search feverishly for Vegemite (and think of Tim Tams with sadness and longing) and use my Australian slang. However I would try out other foods, make friends with locals and integrate myself into society to a certain degree. I do think you can have it both ways.

Even if I wanted to still be the present me, I couldn't. Just moving to another country forces me to adapt and interact. Any form of interaction will change me and my behaviour. Some things will change faster, some slower, maybe some will be preserved. But it wouldn't be the same and, frankly, I wouldn't miss the chance of living differently if I were to move abroad.

I would be me because I don't know how to be anyone else . However I would do me with a bit of adaption .. I think its rude to move abroad and not learn the native language and still expect to communicate fully . Also why move to another country if you don't adapt to that countries way of life in some way whilst keeping your own self . Interesting Question BTW :D

I would probably do most things the same as now - especially what I eat because I'm too fussy to change that. But I wouldn't want to be an outcast in the new society and over time I'd probably adapt to my environment even if I didn't mean to.

Hi I would still want to be me, but i would try and learn the language of the country i lived in, otherwise i may not be able to speak to the locals.

If I moved I would be a completely different person, I wouldn't feel embarrassed about how I dressed etc, I'd feel free... Itd be like a new start. I think in todays society you act like people expect you to act. Hope this helped :)

There is such a thing as compromise you know. I live in China. I'm from Indonesia. Taking uni here. I still dress how I used to, but I actually put on winter wear when it's winter. I talk in my own language to fellow Indonesians but you can't talk in Indonesian to those who won't understand. Try everything but there's no point in "going native"
