Is there Kosher for Passover peanut butter?

Help me find out where you peanut butter was made? Look on the jar for these brands?

  • Jiffy, Peter Pan, Skip, and any other brand you might have? I'm looking for a new peanut butter brand that wont make me sick, one whose peanuts are grown in a dry climate, which means less mold in the product. Peanut butter is known as a mold food. The workers who pick the peanut butter have to wear protective gear to keep safe from the mold, since it can cause sickness, sinus trouble, and fatigue. Mold thrives in humid regions. Peanut butter from dryer regions is said to be better. Also, brand name as opposed to "cheap" peanut butter is supposed to be fresher and therefore less moldy. You can't SEE or SMELL peanut butter mold. It will just look like normal peanut butter. The peanut butter I've been using for the past month has been a cheap Walmart brand, distributed in Arkansas. Not sure if "distributed" means "made in", but chances are they're not gonna move Michigan peanuts to Arkansas for distribution...they probably come from not too far away.

  • Answer:

Distributed by means exactly that, the distributor gets the peanut butter from a manufacturer and distributes it to Walmart. The Jif factory or main office (J.M. Smucker Co.) is located in Orville, Ohio. You could probably google Jif peanut butter and it might tell you where there peanuts are grown. Edit: You can contact the company and ask where there peanut come from: http://www.jif.com/About/Contact/ If you have never gotten sick from peanut butter, I wouldn't worry too much about the small amount of mold that may be in your peanut butter. The US is the largest exporter of peanut butter. The peanut plant is susceptible to the mold Aspergillus flavus which produces a carcinogenic substance called aflatoxin.[8] Since it is impossible to completely remove every instance of aflatoxins, contamination of peanuts and peanut butter is monitored in many countries to ensure safe levels of this carcinogen. In 1990, a study showed that average American peanut butter contained an average of 5.7 parts per billion of aflatoxins, per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines of 20 parts per billion
