Who is a Junior Account Manager?

I have a job interview for CDW for Account Manager?

  • What exactly does an Account Manager do? Do I have to call people and hustle them to tell CDW's products orr? The lady I talked to said if I get the job, I have to take a 5 week training course. Does this job look worth it? At the moment, I work at WalMart and I am pursuing a career in Computer Science in college. Currently 18 and freshman in college. Inputs would be nice, thank you. Here is a link to their job description - http://www.cdw.com/content/careers/sales-account-manager.asp

In addition at the bottom are employee reviews of an Account Manager at CDW ( pros and cons plus additional comments) which will hopefully give you some insight to make an informed decision. Good Luck! Corporate Account Manager at CDW= May 3, 2012—Received and Accepted Offer The interview process began and ended within a two month process from application submission to acceptance of the job offer. I was informed that CDW was hiring and was instructed on how to apply online. I recieved a call from the HR department shortly thereafter and was instructed on what would be covered on my phone interview the next week and what I should do to prepare. The phone interview was fairly detailed and encouraged creative responses to challenging scenarios. After the phone interview was deemed satisfactory, a follow up 1 on 1 interview with a hiring manager was coordinated. That interview was much like the phone interview however the hiring manager is looking for creative responses that show a well prepared interviewer who has a firm understanding on what the company does and what is expected of the position (information that was provided by the HR recruiter who conducted the phone interview). In the 1 on 1 interview the hiring manager wants to see the candidates personality come out and make a connection with the hiring manager. Most times an offer is issued right at the end of the interview. Interview Questions How would I handle a situation in which I am on the phone with a customer who does regular business with me, when a customer who I have been trying to reach unsuccesfully calls me? Tell me about a time you were rejected and how you dealt with it? Give a detailed example of a time your previous employer disagreed with your idea? You have a customer that ordered a printer of a certain brand and model, but we don't have the printer in stock. What do you do in order to 1# not loose the sale 2# give the customer what he wants? Why? What did you do? Why do you want to work at CDW? Employee Reviews CDWCorporate Account Manager in Voorhees, NJ: #Past Employee - 2011# “They tell you that there are accounts to work, you just need to find them, but they give you no tools.” Pros Once you find an account, it is yours, unless they are saving an account for someone else. Cons It is very difficult to find buying accounts that the other hundreds of reps did not find yet. CDWAccount Manager: #Current Employee# “Like any workplace, it has good points and bad points.” Pros CDW has a great atmosphere. The best thing about the place is that most people seem to get along with each other. There are tons little perks like free lunches and happy hours. There are a ton of resources available to help you get tech and product questions answered. Benefits are great. Cons The base pay and commission is too low. It seems like the commission structure changed to benefit mostly newer employees to reduce the high turnover that came from the low base pay. Inter-company departments can be challenging to work with. CDWAcct Mgr hicago, IL: #Past Employee - 2012#-“The worst job I have ever had” Pros Great training- The training provided to Account Manager was fantastic and intense. You are constantly learning something new in the IT world. Cons The base salary is absolutely terrible and the commission plan is even worse. They talk about being a company that build relationships and adds value to their customers, but really it is just a bunch of commodity brokers just like tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. They only care about how many calls you make. You really aren't a sales person there, you are a tele-marketer. The most important thing management cares about is how many calls you make, they could care less about how much you sell or how much profit you make for the company. Long hours for low pay in short with an uptight atmosphere. CDWAcct Mgr vernon Hills, IL: #Current Employee#“Six years & back at square one” Pros CDW offers great benefits and a company you can be proud to say you work for. If you work hard and build solid relationships with field resources you can make a very good living. Cons The company has moved more towards micro management in the past few years. Management went from being sales focused to more babysitter role. Account protection has always been an issue for the past 6 years and at a moments notice they can take an account#s) away with nothing in return. That hurts when you dedicate several years worth of work growing and developing accounts to finally reap the financial reward. Management plays favorites. Advancement through the ranks is very difficult
