Are there any antidepressants that do not cause suicidal thoughts/worsening depression?
-
Hi, i've been diagnosed with depression...have been for four years now. I've tried antidepressants, exercise, dieting, herbal medication, therapy, meditation and vitamins. I am at such a loss as to what to do next. I am very sensitive to antidepressants, they have horrible side effects for me. Probably because I am only 20 years old. Anyways, it's getting worse and starting to get scary. I really want to know if there is any anti depressant medications that do not cause suicidal thoughts and/or worsening depression because I cannot handle that.

Answer:
I've overcome anything I've ever been diagnosed with by simply believing I can, and relying on myself and my own body's physiological and physical ability rather than pills. I believe your mind can overcome anything. You are capable of things stronger than medication can give

The pills are there to fix the chemical inbalance in the brain, which are for clinical depression. So they dont worsen any suicidal thoughts. You have to find a pill that is right for you. Your doctor will help you. You can still feel depressed when you have antidepressents. so you cant look at them as a cure, it just temporary helps to stop a person from acting on thoughts, and overwhelming feelings. So yeah, you can have stuff like effexor and on small dose to help, but a doctor must prescribe it

Meditation works only if the practice is sustained for a long time. I would recommend you to go on a meditation retreat, which is usually conducted for a period of 10 days, this will really help. Also I would like you to try out the meditation techniques that I have suggested below. Here are two techniques and their good sources for practicing meditation. Loving-Kindness Meditation:- http://www.buddhanet.net/metta_in.htm Mindfulness of Breathing Meditation:- This is a very good link, http://www.dharmaweb.org/index.php/The_Basic_Method_of_Meditation_by_Ajahn_Brahmavamso Here's a good book:- Mindfulness in Plain English:- www.urbandharma.org/pdf/mindfulness_in…

Note my answer is not a medical advice, just a suggestion to discuss with your doctor and eventually your family. You can try the following (again, tell your doctor before trying!): 1. St John's wort 3 times per day. You will notice positive effects after 4 weeks at least (you find it in any herbal shop) 2. Check your diet with a specialist. Make sure that you have enough minerals, vitamins and carbohydrates (yes, fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice and boiled potatoes need to be part of your diet. No, canned products, ready meals, fat food and fried potatoes have to be removed) 3. For panic attacks and anxiety you can use Kava (you find it in any herbal shop) 4. If you want to have a go, buy Bach Flower Remedies. You can try the following: Cherry Plum and Rock Rose. Use them every time you want during the day, 2 drops each. 5. Outdoor, outdoor, outdoor. Spend time outdoor. Walk in a park, try every day to be in a place with nature 6. Adopt a pet if you like and can. Taking care of someone will take your negative thoughts away 7. talk to other people about your situation, don't take it for yourself 8. try some meditation. here is a free one you can download: http://methodalpha.com/how-to-meditate 9. Keep a diary listing the good things that happened to you today. Don't say "nothing good happened today", There is always something nice, no matter how small 10. Make positive affirmations, find the funny aspects of your situation, take it easier, find an interest and a hobby, have fun and try at your best to enjoy life
