Are all UCs good colleges?

Which UCs should I apply for?

  • I want to major in journalism and was just wondering which UCs have the best programs. Also, on admissions.. I heard UCs look at unweighted G.P.A as does most colleges, however they also calculate a "UC g.p.a" meaning a-g courses tacking on an extra point for AP classes (max of 8 points) So im a little confused...do they look at their UC g.p.a in determining the overall g.p.a? Kinda worried too, I took a lot of AP classes, which is good, but my unweighted isnt so excellent. And if your a California native, does that increase chances for admissions?

  • Answer:

From what I've heard from my friend, UCBerkeley and UCLA have excellent journalism programs. And yes, the UCs will look at both your weighted and unweighted GPA, but they'll also determine your UC GPA. Don't be too worried if your unweighted isn't really good. At least they'll see that you made effort by taking advanced classes. To balance out your GPA, also try to bring up your SATs and make sure you're engaged in decent extracurrics. And yes, being a california resident does increase your chances of getting accepted by a lot.
