Did I do the right thing, took money he owed me?

• My brother owed me 10$ This was months ago. So I needed gas money and my grandpa gave us both $5. I put both of the money $10..Towards gas since he owed me money and now my grandma.. Who gave my brother $150 for a xbox yelled at me because I didnt give him the money. She never even gave me $150 when I asked her about it.. He is a YEAR younger than me 16.. 17 in June and everyone keeps treating him like a baby. All he does is play black ops and doesnt even have his permit. He is a follower because he only goes to the movies 2 times hes been to the movies with him and he didnt get his permit because he didnt study for it and it was his friend idea for them to get it. He doesnt do homework or anything.. So did I do the wrong thing for not giving him the $5 when I needed it to go to work since my bank account only has $2 Also when I told him I spent it he basically slammed the door in my face even though he owed me money.

  Sorry but you stole the money he owed you. I'm not saying your brother is right for being a slacker and a bad borrower but you basically stole the money from him, making you the guilty party here, and you made yourself look less responsible to your grandfather. There are other ways to deal with a situation like this, like asking him for the money, asking your parents to remind him to give you the money, or just calling it a cheap loss. If it only cost you 10 bucks to figure out never to loan your brother money, you got a really cheap lesson. Your situation sounds like your probably going to earn more money than your brother your whole life. He will probably try to get money from you the rest of his life. You can remind him that he did not repay you once and one chance is all you get.
