Rude bus driver what should I do?

  • This guy was running for the bus. He was quite large and we had just set off from college and were not on a public road just in the college grounds (we had moved about 20 meteres). It was very quiet and there was no other traffic. I saw him running and went downstairs to ask the bus driver to stop. I said politly stop the bus as he was running very quickly and thought the bus driver hadn't noticed. At this point we were stationary. The driver didn't respond so I said it again loudly because I didn't think he had heard me. The bus driver then started to shout at me and the person trying to get on. I didn't want to argue with him so I turned to go upstairs. I said to myself 'no need to be a c**t about it. The bus driver ran after me upstairs and shouted at me again telling me I needed to get off. I told him I didn't say anything and after a few moments he went back downstairs. Although I accept I may have overreacted I didn't say my comment harshly or abusively. Just under my breath (as you might to a friend). Do you think he will take action against me? I honestly did not say it abusively and the bus driver had shouted at me first. What do you think the driver will do?

  • Answer:

    The driver isn't going to take action...if he reports you for using profanity, then you will get the opportunity to explain WHY ....which is because he wasn't doing his job, which he definitely doesn't want to happen. He has much more to lose in this scenario than you do.

You called him a c***, to me you are the rude one here. No wonder he was angry with you. He is in charge of the bus, if he chooses not to stop for someone then that is his choice, rightly or wrongly. Talking to a driver while he is driving or preparing to drive is a distraction and while your intentions were good, if he chooses not to stop or to respond, then that is his choice.

How can you not say "that" word abusively? The driver could legitimately have called the police and had you arrested for disorderly conduct. A night in the cells might have made you grow up a bit

I don't think he will take action against you. Believe it or not, but drivers recieve all kinds of abuse from passengers and don't really do anything unless it puts them or others at risk of being hurt. (which is actually quite rare). Usually bus drivers just laugh about the passengers. Maybe he was being rude, but also you must remember that it's actually quite dangerous to suddenly stop a bus once it has taken off, due to blocking road, etc. Especially if there is a car behind, if the bus stops suddenly, there's a risk of a car going into the back of the bus. People should either be more organised and wait at the bus stop long before the bus is due. Because it actually causes delays and makes the bus late for other passengers. My Dad's a bus driver and has some very rude passengers that think if a bus is late it's the drivers fault, when it really isn't. Lol.

Hopefully he'll calm down. Sounds like he's had a long day or some other problem. Bus drivers work a tough job and what is one stop for you may have been one of many for them - they aren't supposed to. I would feel sorry for the guy and apologize for hurting his feelings - JUST because he doesn't have it easy. No that I'm saying you do or that you're wrong. Just to be kind :)
