Is flv different than .swf ?

  • I know that flash animations are made in adobe flash and it makes .fla format then you convert it into .swf format(to upload it on your web page) the question is what do you mean when you say FLV format ? Is it any different than .swf format ? youtube videos are uploaded in .swf format but some sources say its in FLV , why ? whats the diff ?
