What is organizational management and leadership?

Management: To what extent is leadership a universal skill that can be easily transferred? Discuss?

  • We know leadership is universal in the sense that there are leaders everywhere in human society. From Fred Flintstone, to Obama, To Mao or even Hitler and every social-political group. But is leadership transferable? Is it as transferable as let's say an electrician's skill? Or a TV-repair guy? I am sure a New Yorkan TV repair man could also repair TVs in France. A Canadian oil driller could drill for oil in the South China Sea. Similarly, could a leader from one setting perform his function in another setting? Could Obama be Prime Minister of Britain? And Kevin Rudd be President of the United States? Could an army general lead an air force? Or lead a team of 7-eleven workers? Or a team of accountants? Or could a general manager of a hotel lead a platoon of US marines? To what extent could a manager from one firm necessarily succeed at another firm? Let's discuss this.

  • Answer:

A leader is a leader no matter where he is.. It is highly transferable, the President of the United States hands over his office to a new leader every four (or 8) years, Congressmen must prepare for it every 2 years.
