Can I cancel shipment of a pckg I mailed via USPS yesterday?
-
I had about $100-worth of video games I didn't want anymore, so I packaged them up and shipped them to GamePawn.com. Knowing that they've have ads in gaming magazines and what-not, I didn't give the site's legitimacy a second thought. This was Tuesday, 8 May at about 9 AM. After doing some research, it seems GamePawn is actually a scam-site and oftentimes does not give people their money unless they raise hell and file police reports and what not. Is it possible for me to cancel the shipment of my package if I get to the post office at 9 AM (when they open) on Wednesday, 9 May? I don't know how long it usually takes for a package to actually leave the post office. I really don't want to go to the trouble of hassling with this company to get my money for my games, so if it is at all possible for me to cancel shipment of the package, I would be incredibly relieved; you have no idea. I also paid for insurance on the package (and insured it up to $100), and I still have the receipt, if that accounts for anything. Thank you so much!

Answer:
As usual, bulkmailtech_usps has provided incorrect information to the members of this great community. The correct name of the form to file at your local post office is "Sender’s Request for USPS Package Intercept™ Service PS Form 1509" There is an additional fee of $10.95 to initiate the intercept, plus you will not be refunded the cost of the original postage. There is no guarantee that the package will be successfully intercepted and you will not be refunded the $10.95 intercept fee, if USPS fails to return your package. You're probably better off taking your chances with GamePawn.

You ned to complete and file, with your local Post Office, a PS Form 1509, Senders Application for Recall of Mail. There is no guarantee that it will be intercepted but it's your only shot at making it happen. The form is available at the USPS website. The downside is that you can not request any refund of the postage or fees because it is by your choice that the package was not delivered.

Why would a site that has been operating successfully for a full seven years be a scam? GamePawn.com has been buying and selling used video games since 2003. The lynchpin of the site is an intelligent pricing engine that was first developed and tested in 2002. Fine tuned over 7+ years, the engine values items to efficiently allocate used entertainment media between buyers and sellers.
