    1. and 2.) In most cases sda1 is what amounts to drive C, as it's usually the first partition on the first harddrive (sda2 bering the 2nd, and sdb1 being the first partition on the 2nd harddrive and so on). There are a few ways to find this out. 1. Sometimes Ubuntu can up the volume label (the drive's name), if you've renamed it anything else than Local Disk 2. Through Control Panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> disk management, you can see how the BIOS has allocated the harddrives for Windows. Disk 0 = sda in linux. Partition number starts from the left, so if C: is first, it's sda1 3. You can also note the size in kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes of the given partitions you want deleted, this can help you trace them down If the C drive is located on a seperate harddrive from D:, E: and F:, you can safely format the entire drive if you no longer wish Windows on there, that way you can also get rid of the NTFS system partition (normally hidden). in any case, sda is always the harddrive the BIOS is set to boot from first, meaning the BIOS can also help you. 3.) Can't help you there, but the ubuntu control panel may contain some stuff for diaup somewhere. I haven't had dialup for years, so I honestly can't remember :D 4. )Because of the few viruses for the linux kernel, you shouldn't be afraid unless you mess around with the root account, so an AV is not strictly required. If you want one, though, then ClamAV does a good job. 5.) The Ubuntu forum is always a good place to start, there are many posts on alternatives to popular Windows programs, and a good deal of them already come out of the box (like the Pidgin IM client for MSN, AIM, IRC and more). I would also suggest you install WINE, which enables you to run some Windows programs. If you can't find drivers for Linux for a given device, you can try the ndiswrapper package, which enables you to use Windows drivers for some devices. I hope you come to like Ubuntu, as it's a very stable and capable OS. A few tips on the falling rope: 1. Make yourself comfortable with the Terminal; it's a good thing to know how to use should the OS break for some reason 2. If you have any specific programs you wish to carry over from Windows, make sure to check the WINE compatability library on WINE's homepage. This not only gives an estimate on how well the program will run under WINE, but may also guide you on how to solve common problems and optimize performance. 3. Make sure to make a swap partition, especially if you want to do resource intensive work or a lot of multitasking. 2048 megabytes is enough for most people, and Ubuntu will rarely use it, however it's good to have a swapspace just in case. The swapspace / swap partition is similar to the pagefile in Windows. However, linux is muct more efficient in managing RAM, you you'll rarely use it much...

Download 'wubi' from the Ubuntu website. It will install side by side with Windows Vista. Each time you boot up, it will ask you if you want Windows or Ubuntu.

Giant

Like Giant said. Your best bet is to install Ubuntu without messing around with Windows. This way you can boot to either OS. I did it my my PC which is running Widows 7 Pro. You install the mentioned software from within Widows.
