Are SD/MMC cards the same as regular SD cards?

Do micro sd cards hold the same amount of photos as sd cards in cameras?

The only reason regular SD cards are as big as they are is so that they're easier to handle. The electronics inside are identical. You can stick a micro SD card in a SD carrier and use it in a digital camera. I have an 8G card in my K-5, and it holds about 500-1000 full-resolution pics, or a couple hundred RAW files. I never get anywhere near the capacity of the camera.

8GB is 8GB regardless of whether it's micro SD, regular SD, compact flash, pro duo, XD etc. Nobody here can tell you how many 16.1MP photos can fit on an 8GB card unless we know the file size of each photo in megabytes. And if you knew that and you could tell us, you'd be able to calculate this yourself. How large is each jpeg in 'fine' mode? 3 megabytes, 5? 7? Because jpegs are a lossy format, the compression can be just about anything, so there's no way of knowing. Once you know the file size of each photo, just do the math, there are about 1,000 megabytes in every GB, just divide, and you'll have your answer.

Yes, 8G is 8G. How many pictures you can take depends on how many megapixels your camera has. My 14mp camera can can take over 1000 pics at high resolution on my 8G card. I have a couple of short videos on it now.
