Should I play football next year?
-
Next year I will be a senior in high school and I am not sure if I should play football or not next year. My friends have given me mixed answers some saying that it would be bad to quit because 4 years of anything looks good for college, while others say that if I don't like it I should quit. I don't have anything else that i have done for four years besides playing the piano. I started playing football in middle school but I don't know if colleges would care about that. I don't want to quit because I think its hard or because I am lazy, I want to quit because over the years i have just loss the passion for playing. 8th and 9th grade i looked forward to football and games but now i don't care to hit anymore. Last year I hated playing and regretted it. Before when i lifted during the off season i worked my *** off because i cared and wanted to get better, but this off season i couldn't give a ****. I'm not saying I was lazy but when i lifted the reason that motivated me wasn't to get better at football like it previously was but to get in better shape. I don't like practice and I don't like the games, i hate playing in them. But the reason i don't want to quit is because i don't want to lose friends that i have made and have people think that i am taking the easy way out. And i really want to go to a good college but i feel as if they see that i did not play football my last year they might think im lazy and an uncommitted person. I don't need football to stay in shape i work out on my own. Im also not an important player i have only started in middle school, never during high school. I am not quitting because i think i should play more because i shouldnt since there are other kids more skilled than me especially since i dont want to play in the games. And if i play next year i will just be a special teams guy and i hate special teams. I don't like hitting anymore, i feel bad when i hurt kids especially since i have gotten older i have started to like hitting less and less. the most ive been in another club is 2 years so far. so i am really nervous of what colleges will think. I feel as if the only reason i would play football is for college, and i dont want to do that because i have to much respect for my coaches and team. I just don't get the same joy i used to from playing or hitting kids. The main question i have is, do colleges care if i have 4 years of a sport in high school or is 3 good enough, even though i played a year in middles school giving me 4 straight years of football but not in high school. Please respond ASAP, spring tryouts start soon and i dont want to tell my coach that ill play and then quit.

Unless you are going to college for football, they could care less. I have never heard of a student denied college because they only had 3 yrs of anything. It is all about your grades and if you were in extra activities while maintaining good grades. That is what it is about. Not 4 yrs in football but 4 yrs of football and a 3.5 GPA. If you don't want to play, don't. Why torture yourself on something you hate?

this answer is very simple. Play it cause you can! I have been out of school for some time now and I'd give anything to go back and play ball again. My senior year was rough but I am still glad I stuck it out. My biggest regret is not playing lacrosse in college. So my advise is if you can, do it.

Yes, my best advice for you is to continue playing high school football this upcoming season. At this point, it is not worth it for you to quit on your high school football team. Keep in mind, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your senior year of high school. If you perform very well in football this upcoming season, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program.

You want to quit. Listen to your heart. There are ways to explain to colleges that you quit because you just didn't like the game anymore. The problem is if you want to play but don't want to put in the work to improve and compete. If you just don't want to play, then don't. Besides, unless you're being recruited to play for the college's football team, not playing your senior year after doing it since middle school will most likely not make or break your chances of admission.
