What's the easiest way to pull a loose tooth?
-
my 5 year old has a loose bottom front tooth , and every time I try to pull it, I look at his eyes and chicken out. I am scared I am going to yank it, and cause him tremendous pain only to look and see the thing still there. I was thinking of waiting until it just falls out but it's annoying him. So what's the easiest way to go about this?

Answer:
Send him to my neighbor, Rita! She's been the neighborhood tooth-puller for years and saved all us squeamish moms. Seriously, check with your own mom for help. Gramma has already lived thru this and would probably be a big help. Otherwise, try an apple (not slices - has to be something he must bite into). My cousin actually used jumbo marshmallows for the same thing when the tooth got so wobbly it would "wave in the breeze" every time her kids exhaled. Good luck and remember to laugh when it's all over!

I would leave it to your child, let him play, twist and wiggle the tooth about as much as he pleases. If it annoys him that much, he will play with it more. This causes as much pain as he wants it to, and will decrease the time it takes for it to come out. You can also temp him/her with the toothfairy. Tell you 5 year old that the sooner it comes out, the sooner the toothfairy gives him his (however much you give) Hope I helped

Just wait for it to fall out. You never HAVE to pull a loose tooth. We usually just do it because its fun/exciting. You can tie a string to it and pull if you want. But its really not necessary. Teach him to rock it back and forth with his tongue, it will help work it out and he'll stop when it hurts.

My first grade teacher would tie a string around the tooth (kind of lasso it) and have me say my favorite flavor of ice cream, and as soon as I said it she would pull and I wouldn't feel a thing. Don't wait for it to fall out, it could cause damage to the tooth coming in.

Leave it be! If it's not yet ready to fall out, it could still be attached to some blood vessels which will make it bleed (and hurt) a lot. Let him keep playing with it until it falls out. You could make him eat an apple to see if it helps, but definitely don't force it out...
