I have an MBA in Business Law, what career should I do?

Should I go to law school or get an MBA?

• I just graduated Saturday with an undergraduate degree in Accounting. I was offered a position with a natural gas company and I accepted. I want to continue my education part-time after about a year off. I am trying to decide between an MBA or a law degree. I would just like to hear some of your opinions and maybe even get opinions from others who hold these credentials. Getting my CPA designation doesn't really interest me anymore so this is why I am deciding between an MBA or law degree. Since I will be working in the natural gas industry, I was thinking to maybe specialize my law education in energy law and perhaps work for the same company I have accepted a job offer from as apart of their in house counsel/or with their contracting department. As far as an MBA goes, I believe this could really help me in general with my business career and would put me a step ahead. If I chose the one that interests me the most I would choose to go for a law degree; however, I want to make the best, most logical and practical choice. I know there are lots of law grads with tons of debt and without jobs; although, I do think the kind of law you are trying to get into/where plays a big factor into this. Could anyone maybe share some advice, thoughts, or experience with me?

  Many grad schools offer a dual law/MBA program, where you graduate in 2-3 years with both degrees. If you're not interested in doing that, talk to your employer and see what he/she thinks. If you really like where you're working now & want to stay there after you receive your law degree or MBA, you should see which one would be more likely to get you ahead in the company. Good luck!
