Free Calling & Texting App for iPhone?

So due to some complications my boyfriend and I cannot text using our cell phones or call each other. I have a Palm Pixi and he has the iPhone 4s. He and I both downlaoded the app TextPlus free. It allows texting via the ipod (which I have) and the iPhone. He was even able to call my cell phone using the app until just recently when it stopped allowing him to all me or me to call him back. Is there an App out there that is free (or cheap) that the iPhone can download that will allow us to to text back and forth on my cell phone and unlimited FREE calls? This includes me calling him back.
