Why is it illegal to ride gas scooters but not electric ones?

Should I ask my friends for gas money when travelling?

  • I live in Canada, but close to the American boarder.....usually once a month I will drive down to Seattle to do shopping (about a 3 hour drive) Anyhow, sometimes I travel alone, but sometimes I invite a friend to come, but ask for gas money if they wish to come (not always though...usually I do from the ones I find cheap and stingy) Anyhow, I went with 2 friends yesterday (I paid for gas, as those 2 friends have bought alot for me) but had a conversation and one was saying that I should NEVER ask for gas money when inviting a friend to go down to the States, because I am going to go anyways weather they come or not, so it's to my advantage to have company they say...but I feel that they are getting a piece of the cake as well, so they can pay some as well. After all, I am the one wasting gas and putting kilometres on the car....I don't have a problem if I drive and they drive another time, but most of my friends don't drive, so it's a free ride to the states all together....I would telling them in advanced though that if they want to come, that they would have to chip in for gas.....but sometimes I would throw in a free ride What do you think?

If they are buying you stuff down there I think its fair that they don't pay you gas. But if not then have them give 10 bucks

Nothing wrong with asking friends for gas money. However, it is usually a good idea to ask up front and to be even-handed -- ask everyone or don't ask. When you start asking some people some of the time, then that's rude. Just let everyone know up front that you would appreciate if they would toss in $10 or so for gas. If they don't... don't force them to pay, just stop asking them to come next time.

Its only polite for a real friend to offer gas money if your both going on a long trip. I wouldnt wanna ask either. Maybe if the trip was planned ahead of time with friends, say "Id like to go here on _ day, so im saving for the trip.Gas prices are so high though, so I dont know if I can make it. Im inviting _ people. Would you like to join me, and we can split the gas bill between all of us, (or whatever) to go there and back?" This way.your friends know up front that you expect some help with gas, and you both arent being pressured into an awkward situation of asking for money.

Yes. Thats the way its supposed to be... your friends aren't supposed to be lounging off you :)

You use more gas because you car weighs more with those passengers.
