Is medical transcription a good field to go into?

Has anyone did the medical transcription program in North Carolina from Penn Foster?

  • I am interested in doing this program as a way of getting into the medical field before I graduate with my health-care management associates degree in a year. I know the site says to check the accreditation processes in NC but I have no idea where to go to do so, so I am asking if anyone has done this program and successfully be able to get a job with it. If you haven't did the medical transcription, any of the medical based fields will do, just looking for your experience. Some of the alternate sites I went to for their experiences are conflicting, including ripoff-report.com.

    Jessie, check out AHDI's website. They are the industry experts who can offer unbiased feedback on industry "approved" schools. Penn Foster is not one and you will not be a viable candidate for emoloyment without graduating from an approved school. That's a requirement shared by most employers including ourselves.

Medical Transcription (MT) is a very difficult field to enter right now. Many Penn Foster students are combining MT education with Medical Billing and Coding (MBC) giving them an added skill-set to enter into this field. The MBC program prepares the student for entry-level industry certification through AHIMA. Also, both program curriculum's are included in the Penn Foster Health Care Management Associate's Degree.
