Is Fillipino harder to learn than Japanese?

I want to learn Japanese and found these books on amazon. Are they any good?

  • Well firstly I hardly know much about japanese language only that there are three sections to it, being Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. But aside from that I have a great interest in the language and culture. The following books are what I have considered getting but I would like the advice of those who are learning or have learned Japanese. I also considered Genki but apparently it lacks a lot in Kanji which is pretty important. These are links to the books from AMAZON and they all have the 'click to look inside': An Introduction to Modern Japanese:Volume 1, Grammar Lessons: Grammar Lessons Vol 1 by Richard John Bowring http://www.amazon.co.uk/An-Introduction-Modern-Japanese-Grammar/dp/052154887X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336256552&sr=8-1 An Introduction to Modern Japanese: Volume 2, Exercises and Word Lists: Exercises and Word Lists Vol 2 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0521548888/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE The Two above are for Japanese GRAMMAR mainly. to help more with the Kanji I have considered this: Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary by Jack Halpern http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/4770028555/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE Read and Write Japanese Scripts: Teach Yourself http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1444103903/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_g14_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0CXFV54CCTTYHYD2XC2V&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294 For some pronunciation at the begining I have considered: Berlitz Language: Essential Japanese http://www.amazon.co.uk/Berlitz-Language-Essential-Japanese/dp/981268459X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336490400&sr=8-1 To cover some aspects of pronunciation I have decided to watch anime (in Japanese rather than english dub) and Japanese shows, etc. I am willing to spend 15-20 hours a week learning japanese. Well would you consider the mentioned books above any good? I would reaallly appreciate your help. NOTE there is another book called 'An Introduction to Modern Japanese' by the Mizutani brothers but the sellers ratings is not good as some people did not recieve the book.

I prefer the book "An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani". This really helped me improve my Japanese and was an effective system. It will help you read all of the hiragana and katakana, recognise a lot of basic words in kanji, and have a good knowledge of grammar. The book is made up of 30 lessons which contain dialogues, explanations, drills, reading comprehensions, aural comprehensions, pronunciation practices, and writing practices. The drills are very useful because they are designed so that you will be able to use new expressions in meaningful actual situations, rather than just memorizing. I can also highly recommend "Japanese Demystified by Eriko Sato a self-teaching guide" http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Demystified-A-Self-Teaching-Guide/dp/0071477268/ref=as_li_tf_mfw?&linkCode=wey&tag=japanaustr-20 It starts with a review of the Japanese writing systems, basic pronunciation, and everyday expressions. The book covers key grammar fundamentals such as particles, nouns, verb forms and honorifics. It will help you build your vocabulary with essential words and phrases. You can even test yourself at the end of every chapter for reinforcement. It allows you to learn at your own pace and build the fundamentals to effectively learn Japanese. Here are a few of the important things that I really like about this book Clear and straightforward explanations Lots of great examples Covers hiragana, katakana and kanji with phonetic transliterations Covers everyday topics as well as conversational expressions Quizzes help you to reinforce the language and new material
