Is it reasonable that I wait a few days before I pay on eBay?
-
I won an item on Sunday night, but didn't pay instantly because I was waiting for PayPal to approve a new bank account. (PayPal is currently linked to an empty bank account I don't use, and my PayPal balance is too low.) Saturday, Sunday and Monday were bank holidays so PayPal didn't twitch. It's now Tuesday morning and I still haven't paid the seller yet. I emailed her last night to say sorry for not paying immediately but I would pay her as soon as PayPal approved my new account (2-3 working days). Is that enough? Or should I just get my mum's details and use those? If I were the seller I wouldn't mind, but I've only sold one thing on eBay.

Answer:
Hi! I am a Top-Rated seller on eBay. eBay's policy is that the buyer has 7 days to pay for an item. It does not make any difference if the seller puts something like "....we expect payments within 3 days..." in their listing. eBay does not care, the policy is 7 days. The seller has no method to force you to pay before that time. However, if you believe that the pesky PayPal verification may take longer than 7 days, I recommend contacting the seller through eBay's messaging system and keep your message. That way, if you cannot pay and the seller open an 'unpaid item case' against you, you have evidence that you are trying to get the funds to the seller. This would only possibly help you to get the bad mark of an unpaid items case off your record. Of course, if the seller is strict about the eBay rules, they can always file the 'unpaid item case' after the 7 days have lapsed and then relist the item so someone else can purchase it.

as an ebay seller i find it a bit of a pain in the bum, but unless people list that they need payment withing 48 hours for example it shouldnt really matter, if you message them it should be fine.
