Finding a good key generator?

Consequences of running a generator w/o a muffler if its placed in the open with proper vent & air flow?

• Guys my generator muffler went bad & broke & i am having a hard time finding it.. what i want to ask is can i run it w/o a muffler what will be the consequences... the genset is placed outside the house with proper ventilation & good wind flowing thru it at all times so heat may not be so much of an issue neither is noise an issue to me i just want it to run properly... can it not be run w/o a muffler then w/o having any prob later

  The first potential problem which comes to mind is the location of the exhaust port. Most small engines are flat heads with the valves and ports side by side. If so you'll be cooking, and possibly igniting your carburetor. If the exhaust port is flanged you're out of luck. If threaded, you might find a short length of pipe to redirect the exhaust. The second problem is glowing carbon embers which periodically leave the cylinder if not trapped and burned in the muffler. Small engine parts are hard to find, but you do have the net. I have your additional details. If you were able to thread a pipe into the exhaust port, the mufflers are cheap and easily found. Try Sears, Home Depot, or almost any lawn mower retailer. You'll have a 1/2" or 3/4" pipe thread. (Just bring the pipe and match it up). If you have ever removed the cylinder head you'll recall seeing carbon deposits. These flake off and are usually trapped in the muffler. Most newer engines have a fine mesh screen spark arrestor in series with the muffler based on fire safety requirements.
