Is Project Management a science or an art?

MY SCIENCE TEACHER HATES ME!?

  • I'm a sophomore now but long story short I'm still finishing things up for science from 9th grade because I got really really sick at the end of the year last year. So.. my 9th grade science teacher... she doesn't like a loottt of people. I was one of the people she strongly disliked. Everyone knows with this teacher that you're not going to get a good grade unless you're on her good side. Well.. I had all the odds against me.. I got on her bad side.. AND I'm really bad at science. It's just not my strength.. at all. So there was yet another reason for her to dislike me. So what she'd do is dock points for stupid things.. like on my test if I got something only slightly wrong she would dock points for the whole question.. when for people she did like she would only take a few points off. It's like a game with her. Her standards are ridiculously high. If you don't do something EXACTLY the way she wants then it's wrong. So.. for one of the projects I was finishing up recently.. I decided to go all out with the cover design and just the overall quality of the project. I'm really good at art for my age and I plan on pursuing art as a career. I use photoshop.. not not to manipulate photos.. I draw.. If that makes sense? If you don't understand photoshop? Lol. Anyways.. this was the cover of my project.. the pictures inside were the same idea.. I DREW IT. This art is by me. I made sure to state it inside.. http://oi46.tinypic.com/142t2bs.jpg Again.. if I wasn't clear the first time.. I drew this.. I didn't take it from the internet. And I DID clearly state it inside. Well.. for the creativity portion of the project? I got an 8 out of 10... (there is no 9 in between it went up by 2s). And I know you'll say well that's still good you're over reacting.. but no.. It was an insult. That image took me about 3 hours. THEN there was putting together the inside. Like.... honestly.. what's the point. This teacher ******* despises me. I always try to put effort into these things but she never gives me a good grade on the parts that should get a good grade. This project looked a million times better than what anyone else could have done.. I put in 110% effort.. and it was no different than from when I don't put in any effort. What do I do? I have another project that I'm doing right now that I'm going above and beyond on.. I don't want this to happen again...

nice effort, but then again this is science class not art :S. You could try to find help here for your new project instead. Science was not a challenge for me , but the attitude your teacher takes won't help either.

I have been in a similar situation. A college professor once had it in for me.. big time. What is frightening is that you are not in control of if she gives you a bad mark on a whim or not. But focus on what you CAN control. You can control how good of a job you do, how professional you are being, how prepared you are, etc. If all else fails call her on her bias. Sit down with her and state you claim by saying look I put a tremendous amount of time, effort, and energy into this and I feel it merits a 10. Put the effort on her to defend her marks or better yet, to clearly define what a 10 is. That way you can get it next time. She already has the bias against you. You risk little by calling her on it. She may think twice of marking your work low if she knows you will challenge those scores and won't simply let it be.
