Do you have any tutorials on how to draw anime?

Any tips or good tutorials on how to draw anime/manga?

  • Every time I try to draw a new character, it ends up as the only character I can draw! And I feel very pathetic...T-T I try varying the eyes...Nothing...And the noes...Nothing. Can someone please, please direct me to a website that I can learn how to vary the facial features of the character and their build(body)? I really want to learn how to do this, and if you have any tips of your own, please share. And please don't reply telling me to just change the face shape, because I've tried...So...Very...Hard ...T-T Nothing looks right! Help?

  • Answer:

One of the biggest mistakes that I've seen manga-style artists make is that they put a massive amount of detail in just the eyes, while leaving the rest of the face simple. I would suggest observing various images of professional and nonprofessional manga drawings of different body types, and trying to copy them. While this sounds cheap, it helps you practice drawing in different styles without forcing yourself to just do it on your own. If you have something to work off of or base your drawing on, it's easier to get comfortable with other styles of drawing. Hope this helps! (and, if it makes you feel better, I totally suck at drawing backgrounds for my characters)

Try looking at other manga/anime drawings to see the different styles of the faces. If I'm really bad at something or can't get it right I get a piece of paper and start drawing that particular thing on it like a hand. Don't know if that helped. Also, check YouTube for tips and stuff that may be helpful. :)

differ between face shape, eyes, and hairstyle this alone can make any character look different than another.

I've been there before XD How I started out was I would look up screenshots for an anime. I would draw the screenshot (or the character from the screenshot) as best as I could, and when I got to the point where I could draw him/her well, I would find a new character. After I got to the point where I was confident, I started to draw from MANGA instead. (Which is always much more detailed depending which one you draw from. I drew from the Trinity Blood manga) It built up my skill to where I was able to draw video game characters, and from there, real people. Now, for some tutorials I used- http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/howtodraw/tutorials.html This has TONS of free tutorials for you to use. If you can't draw well still, then just print out a picture of a character and trace it. It helps you learn how to move your hands and where to draw. http://www.youtube.com/user/markcrilley Mark Crilley has awesome tutorials, but his style is more... "innocent" looking if that's what you're looking for. Deviantart has TONS of tutorials, just type in "tutorial" and if you need help on eyes then just type in "eye tutorial" or if you need help with hands, then "Hand tutorial", they have a lot that help you out.
