ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING?

Should I switch my major from Biology and Environmental Studies to Environmental Engineering?

  • Hello, So I'm a junior in college right now double majoring in biology and environmental studies, but I'm worried about what jobs will be available to me when I graduate and where I will be qualified to work with those degrees. I've always been very good at math and science and wonder if I should change my major to environmental engineering. I know environmental engineers use principles of biology to develop solutions to environmental problems, and that really interests me... but will i need a B.S. in engineering to get that job? Meaning I must switch my major? Also, I'm so far into my 2 degrees that I don't like the idea of changing my major and risking going to school for longer than necessary. So...Is it worth it to switch my major at this time? What could I do with my biology and environmental studies degrees? And Is it possible to get an environmental engineering job with a B.S. in biology and a B.S. in environmental studies? Should I consider a possible minor in engineering?

  • Answer:

Yes you would have to do a BSc in engineering. However there may be a chance that some of the courses you need, you will have already taken. I know where I live in Alberta, Canada, I was browsing engineering jobs, and I noticed alot of of job openings for environmental scientists. I would suggest browsing job openings for well known engineering firms in your area, and see what type of people they are hiring.
