My laptop keeps shutting down...?
-
My question is my laptop is probably 4 or 5 years old. So beside its being old could it be shutting down because the plug is old and needs a new one? The plug sometimes won't stay in right and if I don't be carful it does come out. But for the last 3 days it been shutting down and yes the plug is in so. I'm worry because I for sure don't want to lose all my pictures, and stories that I wrote and saved on my laptop. So what should I do about them and the laptop beside go buy a new one right away?

Answer:
Your computer battery is probably burned out, and is relying on your charger to stay on, and sometimes the slightest movement can move the cord and make the computer shut down. You can take it to Best Buy ( I think they check computer for free), Staples, or any of your local computer or electronic stores. Or you can just call the company that produced your laptop. Regarding your pictures and stories make sure you save them to a usb drive or a backup system asap, because you never know what can happen.

Best thing you can do is be on the safe side & save all your pictures, word documents & whatever else you have saved on there onto a memory stick. that way you know that if anything happens to your laptop you havent lost anything that you wont find again. If there was a problem with the battery it would come up on the laptop that the battery needs replacing, therefore its either the fact that the laptop is past its use by date haha, the chargers brokenn or the area the charger plugs into is broken, best thing you can do is take it to the store you bought it from or to any pc store & get someone to run a check on it, but its easier to buy a new laptop because it is old and they might not be able to fix the problem!

As with any computer -- new, old, or somewhere in-between, the mantra is backup, backup, backup. You never really know when you'll suffer a hardware failure that could put your data as risk for loss so without backups you're never guaranteed to have your stuff in a safe place. There are plenty of online services for this such as Mozy that allow you to download a client for your computer and it will automatically back up your data in the background for you whenever things are changed, added, etc. You can also use a memstick as previously described if you want to back up your data and keep it locally with you. As for your computer shutting down, given the age it could be an overheating issue. It could either be the power supply or the processor. Without proper cooling, these items will generally shut down the system to prevent damage so you may want to check your laptop's cooling fan(s) to make sure they're working properly. If not, that could be your problem.
