How should I match my date's dress for Prom?

• What's the best way to match my tux with her dress? I have a black tuxedo, a white tuxedo shirt, a black bow tie, and a black cummerbund. I don't need to use to bow tie and cummerbund if I don't need it, and I could of course buy a tie or vest to match. What would look best? A matching long tie with a vest? A matching long tie with no vest? A black tie with a matching vest? A matching tie AND vest? Please be specific when suggesting combinations and colors. Thank you!!

Here's a good chart to go by that clarifies which options are which: Matching Vest & Long Tie = Standard. Most Common. Less Formal Matching Vest & Bow Tie = Fairly Standard. A Little Classier.
