How do i legally change my last name?

I'm 19 and I want to legally change my last name. How hard is it going to be for me to do this?

  • I am a 19 year old female. I am an ardent feminist and I do not agree with women being named after men, but men never being named after women. I have my biological father's last name on all my records. I don't particularly like my biological father and his last name sounds silly anyway. Should I change it? (I don't want to get married btw) How hard is it going to be for me to change it?

  • Answer:

    Not very hard :)

It isn't difficult to change your name, you file papers through your court and have a hearing, There of course is a fee for this service and you can call the courthouse to obtain how much and what paperwork you must provide it may even be listed on your Jurisdiction website. Hope this helps and good luck!
