Joffrey Summer Intensive: What should I do? HELP?

  • I'm 13 and I auditioned for Joffrey Summer Intensive in Chicago in January when I was 12. I got accepted into the Junior three week one (since it was my first time and all.) I can't do it this summer. I don't have the money. My best friend got accepted and she can't do it either. We decided to raise money this summer for next year. We are both aspiring to become professionals, and we want do ballet as a real career. We go to a studio in the middle of no where. It's not even a studio. It's a program for our Park District. But we are serious... Our current plan is to have a EBAY business. We will sell old clothes, electronic devices, books, stuffed animals, cds, stuff like that. We don't know if it will get $1,700 for both of us. We need some other ideas, too. Also, if you have any other suggestions for summer intensives and what our plans for the future should be, we could really use that knowledge. Most importantly, we are just trying to figure out in general how we are going to get there. We only get about 4 and a half hours of ballet a week. This summer possibly 9 hours a week. We are working on it. Again, we are in the middle of no where, except for being an hour away from Joffrey. We both have siblings that do other things and parents with time consuming jobs. We go to public school. We just really want our dreams to come true. We both have gotten compliments from higher level/professional dancers. We may not be the best. We definetely aren't the worst. I believe we might make it if we have the knowledge and opportunities. Thanks for reading my question. Answer me (even if you know nothing about ballet!) I just need any help I can get!

  • Answer:

Have you contacted Joffrey to see if a scholarship is an option. Often they will give gifted students full scholarships. Especially if they are interested in them for their company one day. Another option would be to raise funds via something like IndieGoGo which is a non profit fundraising vehicle for artists. You would need your parent help for this. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects?filter_category=Dance
